Stacy Halligan has spent her adult life focusing on her career, choosing men with far less care than she does her professional path. That’s probably the reason all of her relationships end in disaster. Now she’s senior editor of the magazine where she works and she was so sure this latest hunk would be the one. When he dumps her, just before Valentine’s Day,  who does she complain to, as always, but her next door neighbor and friend, backup quarterback Max Sullivan. She sees Max as her best friend. Comfortable. Easy to be with.

Max doesn’t mind hanging out with Stacy but in the three years they’ve lived next door to each other he’s hoped for a lot more. Now he sees his opening. When he offers to put on a blitz leading up to Valentine’s Day to make the guy jealous, he has an ulterior motive. He wants to show her he’s the one she should pick, because he wants Stacy for himself. His campaign includes, chocolate, flowers, little gifts and hopefully, really hot sex. Because he’d been dying forever to get her into his bed and keep her there.

Will this work? He only has until Valentine’s Day to find out.

    EXCERPT:

    “Knock knock.”

Kurt lounged in her doorway, jacketless, sleeves rolled up, a big grin on his face. Butterflies danced a jitterbug in her stomach as she remembered the last time they’d been naked together.

“Rumor has it you’re the new queen of chocolates.” He chuckled.

She saved her document and turned to face him. “And they are delicious.”

“I’m sorry I didn’t think of sending them myself.” His gaze raked over her as if his eyes were undressing her. “New outfit? I like it. Very sexy.”

Oh, my God. Men are so predictable. Max called it. How interesting what a flirty outfit and a mysterious admirer could do to a situation. If she’d shown up in her usual slacks and sweater, without the secret admirer, would he even have known she came to work?

“Thanks.” She gestured at the box. “Have some candy, why don’t you?”

“Won’t your ‘secret admirer’ object to you giving them to another guy?” He used his fingers to gesture air quotes.

“Why?” She deliberately plucked a chocolate from where it nestled in the box and popped it into her mouth. “Is there some reason he should be jealous?”

Kurt unkinked himself from the doorjamb and ambled over to her desk. “There might be. Who is this guy, anyway? How come no one has ever met him? And where was he when you and I were doing the horizontal tango?”

“He was there all the time, a deep voice boomed from behind him.

    Kurt’s head whipped around.

Max appeared behind Kurt, a fake smile plastered on his face although a touch of anger flashed in his eyes. “Stacy and I had a little misunderstanding. No biggie. It’s all patched up now. Anyway, she won’t be doing the tango with anyone else anymore. Her dance card is filled.”

Deedee stood in the doorway, eyes wide, face flushed with excitement. “Sorry, Stacy. He said you were expecting him and just breezed on past me.”

“No problem. He’s right. Go on back to your desk.”

Deedee was a statue in the doorway, eying Max like he was a piece of candy in that box.

    “Go on, Deedee,” Stacy repeated.

Kurt narrowed his eyes. “Wait, you’re Max Sullivan, right?”

Max put on his professional smile—the one he used when local news interviewed him after a triumph on the field.

    “Yes. And you would be?”

“Kurt Macallister.” He reached out a hand. “I never miss a Warriors game. ESPN is still replaying that video of the Hail Mary pass you threw in the game against the Patriots.”

“Yeah, my fifteen minutes of fame,” he joked.

Stacy watched the two men in her tiny office space and smiled to herself. She could almost hear Kurt’s brain burning as he tried to figure out what she was doing with Max Sullivan. Max, on the other hand, behaved pleasant but aloof and looked as if he wished Kurt would get out of there already.

Winking at Stacy, he walked around the other man, lifted her from her chair, and pulled her in tight to his chest. Then, without further warning, he brought his lips down on hers in a kiss that curled her toes and sent moisture flooding her panties. His body was hard against hers. All of him was hard including his rock-hard penis imprinting itself on her flesh through her flirty little skirt.

If he gave a performance, it was a damn good one. So good her wits scattered like leaves in a breeze.

“Well.” Vaguely, Stacy heard someone clearing his throat. “Apparently this isn’t a good time to chat with you.”

She opened her eyes and glanced over Max’s shoulder. Kurt still stood in front of her desk, hands in his pockets, irritation and maybe jealousy lining his face.

Max lifted his mouth from hers. “Yeah, that’s right. Stacy’s leaving for lunch and won’t be back for a while.” He turned his face to Stacy, still holding her close to him. “You ready, sugar?”

Stacy’s mind spun. She barely heard whatever comeback Kurt made, too busy staring at Max through lust-clouded eyes. Lordy, the man was gorgeous. Clad in black slacks and a black V-neck sweater, with a smidgen of sexy chest hair peeking over the ribbing, his outfit practically matched his hair, and the blue in his eyes appeared deeper than ever. He topped it all with an elegant camel colored sport jacket and a smile that came straight from the devil himself.

“Get your purse, Stacy,” he told her. “Time to go.”

“Um,” was all she could manage.

Max took a step back, his sensuous mouth crooked up in a smile. Sensuous mouth? When had she put those two words and Max together?

“Stacy? You ready, sweetheart?” His warm voice wrapped itself around her like an erotic blanket.

“Uh, yes. Let me get my purse.”

Pulling her scrambled brains together, she managed to retrieve her bag from her desk drawer without dropping it.

“She may be late getting back,” he told a dumbfounded Deedee as they sailed into the hallway.

    Stack of books crop #2

  • Jay Northcote Guest Blog!

Jay Northcote is a friend of mine and I love having her here on my blog!  Today I’m asking her some personal questions, and asking about her AWESOME new release Not Just Friends. 🙂   Soooo, questions first…

    Describe yourself in three words:

    Impatient, temperamental, passionate

    Your guiltiest pleasure:

I don’t tend to feel guilty about anything pleasurable *grin* but I guess maybe the days where I just give myself time off to just sit on the sofa and read instead of working on my own projects or business. That feels bad in a really good way.

    What’s your earliest memory ?

I remember being in a cot, so I must have been really young—maybe not much over a year old. I think it was early in the morning and nobody else in the house was awake but it was light so it must have been summer. I was standing up against the rails of the cot and I had a rag doll in my hands. I was pulling out the white strands of her woollen hair and dropping them on the carpet. I just have a very clear visual memory of the white pieces of wool against a dark red carpet. I have no idea why that was significant for me but the memory stuck.

    Favourite celebrity crush:

Oh that’s difficult to pick just one. I have a lot of celebrity crushes. But I guess maybe my current favourite is Colby Keller. I do love an intelligent man and Colby is so articulate and interesting in interviews and his blog posts, as well as being smoking hot… obviously. He also doesn’t seem to have a huge ego which is refreshing, and adds to his attractiveness.

    Favourite thing about being British:

Marmite – I bloody love the stuff.

    Marmite_500g_450_tcm28-293449

    Favourite curse word, and why:

    Arse!

Because it’s beautifully British, and also not so rude that I feel bad about saying it in front of my kids.

The book you wish you’d written:

The Hunger Games. It was a great concept and I think she did a wonderful job with it, plus all the millions of sales would be a bonus of course *grin*. I didn’t enjoy the rest of the trilogy so much but the first book really was a great read.

Introduce us to the main characters of your newest release:

Not Just Friends is about two guys who meet when they leave home to go to university and end up living in the same student flat.

Lewis is fairly quiet and self-contained. He’s not super shy but is cautious in his dealings with others. At the start of the story Lewis still thinks he’s straight—he had a girlfriend all through sixth form at school and was happy to fit in and be what everyone expected him to be, so when his unexpected feelings for Max take him by surprise.

Max is very different to Lewis. He’s open about his sexuality and doesn’t take any shit from people. He’s also quite snarky and funny, but there is a vulnerability to him too although he hides it pretty well most of the time. I adored Max, he’s one of my favourite characters so far.

    NJF-cover

Leaving home to go to university is an exciting phase in anyone’s life. One that’s full of new places, new friends, and new experiences. But Lewis is not prepared for the sudden and intense crush he develops on his out-and-proud flatmate, Max—given that Lewis had always assumed he was straight. Max starts dating another guy, and Lewis’s jealousy at seeing them together forces him to confront his growing attraction.

When Max’s relationship goes awry, Lewis is the one to comfort him and one thing leads to another. But after a night together, Lewis is devastated that Max wants to go back to being just friends. Lewis tries his best to move on and their friendship survives, but the feelings he has for Max don’t go away. He faces other challenges as he deals with coming out to his parents, and needs Max’s support more than ever. But Lewis isn’t the only one who’s conflicted. When Max finally admits he cares for Lewis too, Lewis must decide whether he dares risk his heart again on being more than just friends.

    Who is Jay Northcote:

Jay lives just outside Bristol in the West of England, with her amazing, occasionally ridiculous husband, two noisy-but-awesome children, and two cats.

She comes from a family of writers, but she always used to believe that the gene for fiction writing had passed her by. She spent years only ever writing emails, articles, or website content. One day, she decided to try and write a short story–just to see if she could–and found it rather addictive. She hasn’t stopped writing since.

  • Taxes and TARDIS re-release is here!!

    Brent and Logan live again!!

It’s been a long twelve months waiting for this story to be given a new life, a new home.  Taxes and TARDIS was the first book I ever had published and it broke my heart to have it removed from sale.

So I’m very excited to have it available again.

From today, Taxes and TARDIS is available for purchase from Totally Bound!

It has a bright and shiny new cover and has been re-edited and tidied up, but the story is essentially the same as it was when first released.  It was first released with a word count of approx. 25K, and it remains at approx. 25K words. It was only ever intended to be a short, sweet, smut-filled geek-fest.

This story won’t change your life, but it will make you smile.

    taxesandtardis_800

    BLURB:

Brent is a jock, Logan a geek, these men are a world apart.  But if opposites attract, maybe it’s the differences between them that make it worth the fight.

Brent Kelly is a laid-back tradesman whose only concerns are drinks with friends and which man to bed next. In need of a new accountant to sort out his nightmarish shoebox of tax receipts, he’s referred to Logan Willis.

He doesn’t expect to be intrigued by the science fiction-loving, geeky guy with dark-rimmed glasses and a TARDIS blue shirt. So his fascination with the soft-spoken Englishman surprises him, and their mutual attraction is completely unexpected. He most certainly never expects to fall in love.

One a jock and the other a geek, both men know the differences between them are vast and could cause problems. But in this opposites-attract erotic drama, maybe it’s the differences between them that make staying together worth the fight.

    WHERE CAN YOU BUY IT??

Taxes and TARDIS is only available at the Totally Bound site until March 21st when it will be available at third party sites.

    The buy link is  https://www.totallybound.com/taxes-and-tardis

  • Red Dirt Heart cover and excerpt and Starting Point cover reveal!

    RED DIRT HEART

The absolutely gorgeous cover, made by extremely talented Sara York.

    Reddirtheart300

    Blurb:

Welcome to Sutton Station: One of the world’s largest working farms in the middle of Australia – where if the animals and heat don’t kill you first, your heart just might.

Charlie Sutton runs Sutton Station the only way he knows how, the way his father did before him. Determined to keep his head down and his heart in check, Charlie swears the red dirt that surrounds him – isolates him – runs through his veins.

American agronomy student Travis Craig arrives at Sutton Station to see how farmers make a living from one of the harshest environments on earth. But it’s not the barren, brutal and totally beautiful landscapes that capture him so completely.

It’s the man with the red dirt heart.

    FBBannerReddirtheart1

I’d like you to meet Charlie Sutton and Travis Craig, the two main characters in my newest book, Red Dirt Heart.

    Charlie Sutton
    Charlie Sutton
    Travis Craig
    Travis Craig

Set in the Australian Outback, Sutton Station is the eighth largest cattle station in Australia. With landscapes of red earth, blue skies and blistering heat, Red Dirt Heart is the story of how one American Agronomy student turns up at Sutton Station for a one-month-long working holiday, and subsequently turns one Australian cowboy’s life upside down.

Having surrounded himself with isolation, Charlie is quite content to spend his life ensuring Sutton Station remains one of the most respected properties in the Outback. Convinced he’ll spend his life alone, just as his father did before him, Charlie isn’t prepared for Travis Craig.

Confident and a competent farmhand, Travis offers Charlie a ‘few weeks of fun’ while he’s there. What could possibly go wrong?

    Excerpt:

CHAPTER ONE – Where the American guy walks in, all blue eyes and disarming smiles, and my life goes to shit.

    ~

Just on sundown, I got off the motorbike, kicked the stand down so the bike stood upright without me and closed the gate. I’d been out all day in the South paddocks doing a final check of fences and water trough pumps before we bought the cattle down from the North. I’d seen the ute back at the homestead as I came in so I knew George was home.

George was my leading hand. He was in his fifties, with greying hair and sun-hardened skin. He’d worked here for as long I could remember, but he was more than a loyal employee. He was my friend, and in a lot of ways, more of a dad to me than my own old man ever was.

He’d been out all day.  Left before sun-up and headed into Alice Springs. We were a good three hours from the nearest town, and with a list as long as his arm from the Station cook, Ma – who also happened to be his wife – he needed a few hours in town before heading out to the airport to pick up the real reason for his trip.

An American agronomy student by the name of Travis Craig.

When my father ran this farm, every year we’d have people from another country come and spend a couple of weeks as part of some Diversification exchange program. My old man always said it was a good way to source out what other countries were teaching, but really I think he just liked the extra pair of hands at the finish of the dry season.  And when we’d had a phone call back in July to ask if we’d be interested in hosting another student, and given it’d been a few years, I thought it seemed like a good idea. Now I couldn’t help but wonder if this Travis Craig would be a help or a liability.

I rode the bike into the yard and pulled up in the shed. I figured they’d know I’d arrived, having heard the bike, so I headed straight for the house. Like most homesteads built almost a hundred years ago, it was a weatherboard home, with an old iron roof and a veranda around four sides to try and keep it cool.

I kicked the red dust from my boots on the veranda steps and tried to brush the same from my jeans, took off my hat before I opened the door and walked inside. There was a suitcase and a duffel bag near the front door, and voices at the back of the house.

“In the kitchen,” George called out.

I followed the sound of chatter and the smell of something good to find a meeting of sorts in the old country-style kitchen. The worn, solid wooden table that graced the middle of the room was covered with plates of scones and trays of cups and tea, and three people were in chairs around it. My right-hand man, George, his wife the cook, Ma, and a stranger with short light-brown hair and pale blue eyes.

George was the first to his feet, and the man beside him soon followed. “Here’s the boss, Charles Sutton,” George said, introducing me formally. “Charlie, this is Travis Craig.”

Travis, who looked about twenty-two years old, held out his hand and smiled. “Mr Sutton. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” His accent was strange to hear at first, but his smile was warm and wide.

I wiped my hand on my shirt and held it out for him to shake. “Travis,” I said with a nod. “Please, call me Charlie.”
