  • Update on Starting Point

As you may or may not know, I’ve really struggled with writing these last few months.  Without going into details and the whole woe is me song, for the last seven months I have been trying to write the final installment in my Turning Point Series.

Well, it’s done.  The first draft anyway.

I’ve sent it to my editor (who graciously read it when it was half done and I was about ready to quit writing all together) and I’m sure there will be major edits, rewrites and additions to be done. As it is now, it’s 90,600 words exactly. (I deleted the epilogue – but will add it if my editor thinks it’s necessary).

It’s bittersweet to finish this series. I have LOVED these boys more than words can express. I honestly feel like I know them, like they’re real, and they are very much a part of my life.  I have loved writing them, and while it’s sad to let them go, I am also relieved to be at the end.

In the first book, Point of No Return, we meet Matt and Kira, Matt’s workmates and Kira’s parents.  In the second book, Breaking Point, we meet the guys at the FC.

In Starting Point, along with all our favourite characters from the first two books, we meet some more special people.

I’d like to introduce you to two kids Matt teaches at the FC, Claudia and Reuben.

    Claude
    Claude
    Ruby
    Ruby

These two kids, brother and sister, Claude and Ruby, come with a world of problems that Matt and Kira weren’t quite prepared for. Still dealing with ramifications from his stint undercover, along with worries that the FC might be financial trouble, Matt finds  the course of his life heading in a new direction.  But with Kira by his side, Matt realises it’s not a bad thing. In fact, it could be the beginning of something great, and this is just the starting point.

More news when I have it – but I believe it will be a late May publication.  Thanks to all who have read and loved these boys. I hope I have given them a HEA they deserve.

  • Guest Post! Kate Sherwood – Fall Into You

Kate Sherwood is here to show off her new book, Fall Into You!

The Fall, from Dreamspinner Press, coming December 16, 2013 – available for pre-order now!

    Kate sherwood the fall

    Bio

Kate started writing at about the same time she got back on a horse after a twenty-year break. She’d like to think she’s far too young for it to be a mid-life crisis, but apparently she was ready for a few changes!

Kate’s writing focuses on characters and relationships, people trying to find out how much of themselves they need to keep, and how much they can afford to give away. She tries to find a careful balance between drama and humor—she wants readers to have an intense experience and feel drawn into the book, but she also wants them to enjoy the time they spend reading.

    Blurb

Every relationship leaves something behind. Dumped by his sugar daddy, part-time model Scott Mackenzie somehow ends up owning an abandoned church in rural Ontario. He dreams of using it for gay weddings, even if he’ll never have one of his own.

Joe Sutton is trying to keep his family together after his parents’ deaths. Between the family ranch, his brother’s construction company, and commitments around town, he doesn’t have time for a relationship. But Mackenzie is hard to ignore.

As both men fight their growing attraction, challenges to Mackenzie’s business threaten their relationship. If he can’t make it work, he’ll have to crawl back to the city in defeat. But the only solution involves risking the ranch Joe loves, and each man has to decide how much he’ll sacrifice for the other.

    Excerpt

Lorraine snorted. “He didn’t seem too friendly? I’m not surprised.” She shrugged philosophically. “It’s probably the gay thing.”

It hit Mackenzie almost like a slap. He’d thought he was prepared for small-town attitudes toward his sexuality and had absolutely considered homophobia as a possible barrier to setting up his wedding chapel somewhere like Falls Creek. But he couldn’t believe it was being treated so casually. “You’re saying he was rude to me because I’m gay?”

Lorraine looked startled. “No. I’m not sure I’d call it rude, but the way he acts? Distant, kind of? I always figured it was because he’s gay. You know, he’s always been a bit different, so he’s never really tried too hard to fit in. He just hangs out on his ranch, being a lonely cowboy….” She trailed off and fixed her gaze on Mackenzie. “But you say you’re gay as well? I mean, I can’t say it didn’t cross my mind. But it seemed rude to ask….”

“Joe Sutton is gay.” Mackenzie had always prided himself on being able to read people and certainly on being able to pick up on that little spark from a man who was noticing Mackenzie’s undeniable charms. But he’d gotten none of that from the cowboy brother. “That’s confirmed? Or you’re just guessing?”

“Well, I haven’t been there in the room with him and another fella,” Lorraine said with an arched brow, “but it’s general knowledge. He’s never tried to hide it, not that I ever heard of.”

“Maybe he just couldn’t be bothered to speak in order to deny it. He doesn’t seem like someone who cares a whole lot what other people think about him.” Mackenzie was trying to figure it all out. He wanted to find a mirror and make sure he still looked like himself. First Nathan had dumped him for that twenty-year-old, and now a man living in what must surely be a gay desert had crawled right past Mackenzie’s bountiful oasis?

“You could ask Nancy Yeats’s nephew, if you wanted. Trevor something or other. He lives over in Darton, and I guess the two of them were seeing each other for quite a while.” Lorraine’s grin was a mix of curiosity and mischief. “If you’re interested, I can find out if he’s seeing anyone right now. I haven’t heard of it, and usually that’d be a good sign that it isn’t happening, but like I said, Joe’s a bit different. A bit more private than most folks.”

Private was not a good enough excuse for failing to pay attention to his surroundings or, more importantly, failing to pay attention to Mackenzie. But none of that needed to be shared with a woman who clearly gossiped as a way of life. He smiled brightly. “Oh, no, I’m not interested. You know, not like that. I was just curious. I wanted to know what kind of people I’d be doing business with if I had the Suttons do the work on the church.”

“The best kind,” Lorraine said firmly. “You couldn’t do better.”

Lorraine started telling a story about the Suttons helping out some poor family that had lost everything in a house fire—well, of course the whole community had chipped in, but the Suttons had done the biggest part—and some people might say that’s because they’re blood, but really, they’d be third cousins at best—because it was Susan Sutton’s grandmother? Yes, grandmother, Maggie Johnson—she was from out in Newfoundland, back before it was even part of Canada, and she’d carried that accent with her for her whole life…. Mackenzie tuned out. Joe Sutton was openly gay. And Mackenzie was a model, for Christ’s sake. Maybe his career hadn’t quite taken off, but that was because Nathan hadn’t really liked it. He hadn’t been rude enough to try to forbid it, but he’d be grumpy for days before and after Mackenzie went out of town for even a couple days, and there just weren’t enough shoots in Toronto to propel someone into the modeling elite. The first time Mackenzie turned down a New York job, Nathan had leased him a silver Mini convertible as a reward. Mackenzie had been thrilled by the symbol of Nathan’s affection and by the adorable new wheels. But being a good boyfriend had made it a bit difficult to be a good model. So, no, it wasn’t as if Mackenzie had set the world on fire as a model. Still, he must be a tastier piece of ass than Nancy Whoever’s nephew!

Mackenzie forced himself to pay a bit more attention to Lorraine’s chatter, but the biggest part of his brain was still focused elsewhere. He was not going to be ignored by some desperate hick pretending to be a damn cowboy. No. Joe Sutton was about to get his world rocked. “Nobody puts Baby in a corner,” he muttered to himself, and then he smiled when Lorraine shot him a quizzical glance. “I’ve got to go,” he said without trying to explain. “But thanks so much for catching me up on all this. You’ve given me a lot to think about.”

He beat a hasty retreat inside and went to sit in the sanctuary of the church. A lot to think about. And a lot of things to do, things actually based around the important points of building a successful business and keeping himself out of the poorhouse. But his mind kept drifting back to the tall cowboy who’d told him he had bats in his belfry. And then ignored him. What the hell was Joe Sutton’s problem?

  • Taxes and TARDIS new cover reveal!

Taxes and TARDIS was taken out of publication in January 2013. It was a horrible time for me as a writer, as it is for any author having stories removed.  But after a re-edit and some re-writing, Taxes and TARDIS will be available again in March 2014.

And I have the cover already!

    taxesandtardis_800

    Isn’t it pretty?

I can’t wait for Brent and Logan to live again!  This was the first story I ever had published, so it will mean a lot for me to see it available again.

    Blurb:

Brent Kelly takes in his shoebox full of receipts and invoices to his new accountant, Logan Willis.

He didn’t expect to see a kind of cute, geeky guy, with dark rimmed glasses and a TARDIS blue shirt. He certainly didn’t expect to be intrigued by him, and most certainly didn’t expect to fall in love.

Both men have concerns the differences between them are too great, but they soon realize maybe it’s the differences that make it worth the fight.

  • Blog Swap and Five Minutes with Ashe Barker

    Five minutes with Ashe Barker.

    When did you start writing?

I only really started writing fiction in September 2012, so just over a year ago now. I’d wanted to, kept on telling myself I should. I was always running snapshots of plots and stories through in my head, often when I was stuck in traffic as I commuted to work, so I wasn’t short of ideas. But I always found something more pressing to do. Then, towards the end of last year, I found myself with time on my hands. Add to that I’d spent a chunk of the summer devouring Fifty Shades, along with pretty much everyone else, and I felt sort of inspired to make an effort.

It took me three months to write The Dark Side. I set myself the deadline of completing the manuscript by Christmas, but had to really pull out all the stops to meet that target in the end. I actually finished it at quarter past nine in the evening, on Christmas Eve.

What do you love about writing?

I find it exhausting sometimes, but incredibly satisfying. I love creating characters I like, and care about, and whose stories I want to tell. I feel as though I actually know them by the time a story is completed. Maybe I’m a frustrated dictator because one of the things I love is the sense that I’m master, sorry, mistress, of their destinies. Their happy ending is in my hands so they’d better behave.

    Biggest pet peeve about writing?

I have an office at home, but I usually prefer to write in the kitchen. When the house is empty that’s fine, but when the family are around I hate anyone looking over my shoulder. I’m happy for them to read my completed stories, but a work in progress is a private matter, between me and my editor.

Most hated word in the English language?

Although I use it a lot in my writing, I hate the word ‘cunt’. I use it because people do, it lends realism, but in real life, never.

Three most played songs on your iPod?

    I’m  a sucker for rock ballads, so…

Meat Loaf’s Left in The Dark

    Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody

    Bon Jovi’s Bed of Roses

    Last movie you watched?

Life of Pi. I saw it at the film club in the community hall in my village. I’m a rural parish councilor, so I tend to go along to stuff. I loved the film though, especially the tiger.

You’re hosting a dinner party. Name the five people, alive or dead, you’d love to have at your table.

This is an interesting question. I’d invite Jon Bon Jovi, of course. A bit of eye candy is always welcome. And Professor Brian Cox – similar reason, but I’ll bet he’s really interesting to talk to as well, what with having a brain the size of a small planet. I’d also invite my mother’s mother, who died before I was born. I’m named after her and I’ve always wondered what she was like. I get the impression my mum didn’t get on that well with her, but I’d like the chance to form my own view. And I’d invite my baby son, who died the same day he was born seventeen years ago. It would be wonderful to know what he would have grown to be. And my fifth guest, probably my daughter, now aged fifteen, and by far my most impressive work in progress

Best advice you’ve ever been told?

Someone once suggested to me that I imagine a time, sixty years or so from now, when I’m long dead and my daughter is an elderly woman herself, talking to her grandchildren about me. What will she be saying? What do I want her to tell them? It’s a sobering thought that what I do now, here, today, will directly influence those obituaries. Need to get my shit in a pile.

    Craziest thing you’ve ever done?

Accepting the offer of a camel ride, from the centre of Cairo up to the Pyramids. I swear that beast was the spawn of Satan, murderous intent with a hump to match. As soon as I got on, it shot out, across six lanes of traffic into the dual carriageway, prancing between the buses and coaches and articulated lorries with me bouncing around on the ridiculous little wooden seat perched on top. The handler ran alongside, yelling and swatting at the infernal creature with his stick. Lucky I couldn’t get my hands on any suitable implement – I’d probably still be languishing in an Egyptian jail for inflicting grievous bodily harm on a camel.

    Place you’d love to visit?

The Great Wall of China. I understand this is the only man-made structure visible from the Moon. I’ve never been to the USA either, and I’d love to. I don’t especially yearn for Disneyland though, more ‘small town America’. My idea of heaven would be to tour from the east coast across to the west in a motor home.

Most famous person you’ve ever met?

Princess Diana. Some years ago I had a job managing an HIV prevention project. I worked for a national charity, and our CEO was invited to a conference on HIV and women which was to be attended by Princess Diana, who had a strong interest in that subject. He decided, since it was a women’s event, I ought to go instead. So I did. It was a small affair, only about 60 invited attendees, so we were all milling around together at lunchtime. I was tucking in to my smoked salmon thingummy’s when I realized someone very tall was standing alongside me. I turned, and it was Herself, also guzzling smoked salmon. She smiled, so did I. I asked her if she was enjoying the conference so far, she said she was, very interesting speakers. I asked if she’d be staying for the rest of the day, she said sadly not, she had another appointment. We exchanged a few more pleasantries, commented on how nice the salmon was, then drifted our separate ways.

From what/where do you find inspiration?

Because I didn’t actually start writing until recently, I have fifty odd years of experience to draw on. My characters and settings are based on people, places, situations I actually know. My favourite setting is the Yorkshire moors where I live, a stunning and atmospheric landscape. I defy anyone not to feel just a little bit inspired.

    Favourite book of all time?

Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy. I was introduced to Hardy at school, and love all his books, though Jude does stand out

What’s next for you?  Any current WIP’s we should know about?

I’ve just completed drafting a story for Totally Bound’s ‘What’s Her Secret’ series, and I’m thinking about a short story next. I have a pile of synopses to choose from, and more ideas in the pipeline. I want to round off the ‘Black Combe’ set with perhaps one more story

Tell us about your new release?

    unsure_exlarge

Unsure is the first book in Sure Mastery, a tie-in trilogy to The Dark Side. It reintroduces a number of favourite characters, but this story focuses on Tom Shore who was a supporting act in The Dark Side. Tom’s leading lady is Ashley McAllister, new to this series.

     Here’s the blurb.

Desperate to escape her past and start over, Ashley McAllister cuts her ties with her old life and heads for the wild landscape of West Yorkshire, the perfect place to reinvent herself. And her carefully laid plans are working, until she encounters her nemesis—the one man she’d hoped never to see again. Tom Shore, the man she and a gang of thugs attacked and robbed, and who swore he’d make her pay. He owns the cottage she now lives in and adores, and now he wants his pound of flesh. So he takes it.

Intimidated, beaten and dismayed by her sexy and dominant landlord, and totally confused by her intense physical response to him, Ashley needs Tom to guard her secrets.  But will he, and his enigmatic and terrifying friend Nathan Darke, allow her to leave her past behind and start again? Having survived her first explosive and humiliating encounter with Tom, Ashley struggles to get her new life back on track. But Tom wants her. His demanding, persuasive, sensual charm is almost irresistible, his mastery of her assured.

But—can she submit to Tom’s dominance? Should she? Ashley has escaped one violent and abusive relationship. Is she about to be sucked into an even more dark and dangerous liaison?

The Sure Mastery trilogy charts the sensual and emotional journey of petty thief turned photographer Ashley McAllister as she struggles to overcome personal tragedy, loss and grief to rebuild her life in the wild beauty of the West Yorkshire moorland.

Resilient and determined, independent and courageous, Ashley has no qualms about cutting her old ties and starting again. Intent on establishing her landscape photography business, she is horrified when her turbulent past comes crashing back to haunt her, threatening to overwhelm and destroy her fragile new beginning.

Alone, vulnerable, Ashley needs Tom to guard her secrets and allow her to stay. He just wants her. He wants her submission, her surrender, but he’s already destroyed her trust in him. Will his seductive charm and sure mastery be enough to rebuild her fragile faith? Can he teach her the difference between the violent abuse she’s experienced in the past and his much more exquisite approach to pain? And where does pain end and pleasure begin?

Intrigued and delighted by Ashley, Tom finds her passionate response to his touch totally enthralling. And she delights in his gentle but sure mastery as he allows her to explore her nature fully, guiding her into his world of pleasure, desire, trust and reward. His gifts to her are beyond price, the rewards of submission.

But will it be enough, and can the shadows of her dangerous and violent past be left behind them? Or will Ashley’s ghosts come back to destroy their fragile new life together? As violence once more explodes around Ashley she learns the true meaning of surrender, and of the precious gifts that life can offer.

    Here’s an excerpt…

I pulled it off. Mary, Joseph and all the saints, I only fucking did it! Months of planning, sacrifice, sheer desperation and soul-deep tragedy have brought me here. So here’s where I am. At last. Free. Free to start over.

The monotonous asphalt of the M6 heading north rolls in front of me, miles and miles of it. And every mile taking me farther away from—before. Away from ‘Shaz’, away from poverty and violence and doing without, leaving behind my old life jam-packed with nothing much but drudgery, fear, humiliation.

Not that the future looks particularly certain. But at least there’s only me in it.

    * * * *

I remember with absolute clarity the moment I knew I was going to be rid of Kenny. It was July thirteenth 2011 at nine sixteen p.m., the moment when the radiologist at Southmead Hospital’s maternity unit at last finished clicking away at her keyboard, swirling her chilly probe through the gunk on my abdomen, looking again at her monitor and once more for good measure before she finally turned to me. She had on her well-trained sad and sympathetic face as she calmly announced that my baby had no heartbeat. No heartbeat! How can a baby have no heartbeat? He’d be dead if he…

The maternity unit staff were kind, caring, but they couldn’t put it right. Nothing, no one could put this right. My baby was dead. Dead because my thug of a boyfriend couldn’t keep his fists to himself. One shove too many, one punch too many, one heavy fall too many, and it was done. My baby, gone. I sobbed. I screamed and kicked and refused to accept. Refused to accept a life lost, wasted through thoughtless cruelty and callousness.

It’s not as though Kenny had even meant to kill my baby. His baby. He just simply hadn’t cared one way or the other. But it was real, this was all real—really happening to me, and eventually my body took over and expelled my tiny, tiny baby son, out onto a cool, clean rubber sheet. Months too early. Dead before his life had even started. Before I’d even looked into his face to say ‘hello’ it was already too late to say ‘goodbye’. The midwife taking care of me—her name was Ann-Marie I think but it’s all something of a blur—scooped him up and out of the way while the young doctor dealt with the afterbirth, and other nurses cleaned me up, made me sanitary and ‘normal’ again.

Ann-Marie brought my baby back, beautifully laid out in a tiny basket, on a pale blue satin cushion. He was so small, his little limbs matchstick thin, and he was a very deep pink, like a little pixie. Not quite human, yet not quite anything else either. Even though I never asked her to—it never even occurred to me—Ann-Marie took a photo of him with a little digital pocket camera they must keep in the maternity unit for this sort of thing. She also took his tiny little handprints and footprints. And she put all those mementos into a little white memorial card that she gave to me.

I have it still. I’ll have it forever. That’s all there is left to show my baby was ever here.

    Author Biog.

Until 2010 I was a director of a regeneration company in Leeds, in the UK, before becoming convinced there must be more to life. I left to work as an independent consultant, and still do some of that though most of my time is now spent writing, as at last I’ve been able to realise my dream of writing erotic romance myself. I’ve been an avid reader of women’s fiction for many years, and I still love reading historical and contemporary romances – the hotter the better. But now I have a good excuse – research.

I usually draw on settings and anecdotes from my own experience to lend colour, detail and realism to my plots and characters, but my stories of love, challenge, resilience and compassion are the conjurings of my own lurid imagination.

When not writing – which is not very often – my time is divided between my role as resident taxi driver for my teenage daughter, and caring for a menagerie of dogs, rabbits, tortoises.  And a cockatiel.  I’m a rural parish councillor, and I’m passionate about evolving rural traditions and values to suit twenty first century lifestyles.

I’ve now completed my third trilogy in the Black Combe ‘family’ as well as a novella, another novel, and a short story. All are due for release over the next few months.

  • Long, Deep, but Quick! Guest post by Posy Roberts

    Fusion_bookmarkH_DSP

The challenges of writing a series are many. One of the hardest parts is finding the mojo to keep on going. Another is to remember all the little details ages after your head has been away from your story.

I thought I’d avoided these two struggles by writing North Star all at once. But the details to remember when writing over 300,000 words are daunting. I set up story arcs in book 1, Spark, that aren’t going to be concluded until book 3, Flare (released January 13th).

Fusion was released this week. This is the second book in my trilogy, and it is the entire reason I wrote this series in the first place. I had a friend tell me some awful news that got me plotting a story as we walked around the lake a few springs ago. I knew the story couldn’t start where Fusion does, so I wrote a lot of backstory in Spark.

    Spark_headerbanner

I ended up writing so much backstory of Kevin Magnus and Hugo Thorson’s teen love story, that I was able to adapt portions of Spark and add a whole lot more to their story to be released as a Young Adult title. Private Display of Affection will be released by Harmony Ink Press December 12th, and I’m even considering writing another book to follow up on that and to cover Kevin and Hugo’s senior year in high school. So what started out as three very carefully planned books has now blown up into five.

As N.R. and anyone else who has written a series knows, it can be far more challenging than writing a stand alone book. It’s wonderful to be able to go farther and deeper with these characters though. I almost feel as if they are very close friends.

I’ve even had pre-readers and editors ask a question or two about something that happened these books, and I could write paragraphs on the thought process behind my Hugo’s reasoning. It’s crazy! It’s wonderful! I have loved getting so fully immersed in these characters’ minds.

And yet, I’m very much aware of what it’s like being a reader of a series or a trilogy. I remember waiting years between Harry Potter books. For some it was easy to put the story out of my mind, but for other books, it was nearly impossible.

That’s why I wrote North Star all at once and submitted the novel in quick succession with my publisher. I didn’t want to make readers wait. I also didn’t want to lose my motivation or get too far away from Kevin and Hugo. I’m already going to have a hell of a time letting Hugo go. I think I’ve fallen for him, and if he weren’t gay, I’d be hitting up every drag club and theater in Minneapolis looking for my fictional character.

So if you don’t like to wait, you don’t have very long to wait with North Star. Spark and Fusion are already out there waiting for you to read them. Flare will be coming in less than two months.

Squee! I can’t wait for them all to be in print. I’m so excited to take a photo of all three books side by side. That will be a wonderful day for me to see this seed of an idea come to life in actual books.

God I love being a writer!

    Fusion

How do you tell your friends and family you’ve fallen in love with a man when they’ve only ever known you as straight? How do you explain to your kids that you loved their mother very much, but your new partner is your best friend from high school?

Kevin Magnus must figure it out while trying to build a relationship with Hugo Thorson, whose bigger than life, out-and-proud drag queen persona is simply too big to be contained in a closet—even for the time it takes Kevin to come up with an explanation for his kids and Erin, his soon-to-be ex-wife.

But Erin faces an even bigger obstacle—one that shakes the entire family to the core. When she unexpectedly turns to Hugo, they form a connection that forces Hugo to grow up and offers Kevin the chance to become the kind of father he wants to be. Despite the coming complications, they’ll all benefit from a fortunate side effect: it becomes clear that Hugo is very much a part of this unconventional family.

  • Five Minutes with debut author A.E. Via

Welcome to my blog!  Tell us about you.

I’m a mother of four children: 18 yr old, 14 yr old, 11 yr old, and a 5 yr old. My kids and husband are fun and awesome.  When I’m not busy running my paralegal-for-hire business that I operate out of my home, I try to spend the time with them.

My business does keep me pretty busy. I basically prepare and file complete bankruptcy petitions for people who can’t afford to hire an attorney…so needless to say, I stay pretty busy.

     When did you start writing?

I actually began putting my thoughts on paper early last year.

What do you love about writing?

I love where my writing takes me. It’s like my own Narnia of erotic gay world. I can put myself in scenes and see and feel the emotions of my men. Hope it doesn’t sound crazy, but someone can literally be calling my name and I won’t hear them at all. I only hear the tapping of my laptop keys and my men’s voices.

     Biggest pet peeve about writing?

Definitely would be being interrupted. Or if you mean something else; probably my biggest peeve would be when I have a scene in my head, but I lack the words I really want to describe it, and I have to edit, over, and over again. It happens often, I wasn’t an English major in college.

Most hated word in the English language?

     Can’t

Three most played song on your iPod?

Moves Like Jagger – Maroon 5; I’m Sexy and I Know It – LMFAO; A lot of Prince (I only listen to my IPod when I work it. LOL)

     Last movie you watched?

The Internship – Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson

You’re hosting a dinner party. Name the five people, alive or dead, you’d love to have at your table.

    That’s easy.

Author G.A. Hauser, Author Draven St. James, Author S.E. Jakes, Adult Entertainer Chad Brock and the late great Author ELynn Harris

Best advice you’ve ever been told?

Stop doubting yourself and just write already. (Said by one of the wisest men I know…my husband)

Stop worrying about the past…it’s done. You can’t change it, so focus on your future.

    Biggest regret?

Starting college so late. I finished my Bachelors in Sociology, but would’ve liked a Masters in English too…time got by me.

    Craziest thing you’ve ever done?

Skinny dipping in our neighborhood’s public pool. Shucked my clothes and went for it. However, when someone called the cops, it was too dark to find where I threw my damn clothes.  Yep…awkward…my friends have never let me forget that.

    Place you’d love to visit?

First place would be: Chicago. I’d love to run into adult entertainer Chad Brock. He’s definitely my muse.

Second would be New Orleans. The city is so vibrant and rich with culture.

Most famous person you’ve ever met?

President Barack Obama at a campaign rally in Virginia. I shook his hand and he said thank you to me for coming. It was very surreal.

Three random facts about you that your readers don’t know?

I have terrible insomnia and can only fall asleep if Golden Girls is on television. I have over seventy episodes on my DVR.

I have a fragrance fetish. I love smelling men (upper region only people…geez).  I’m not scared to tell a man he smells divine. They love that too.

My readers may be able to tell by my writing…but I’m pretty obsessed with gay men, and not just gorgeous ones either.

Where do you write? (dining table, office, sofa, coffee shop etc)

I mostly write in my bedroom in my recliner. Honestly, I can write anywhere: In Starbucks, in my car in line at the bank, in the sauna, at dinner…etc. I keep a journal in my purse at all times. I can take quick notes anywhere.

From what/where do you find inspiration?

I can find it in almost anything. When I hear an awesome song, if I see a couple’s display of affection, watching television, working out, or starring into space. My mind is constantly turning and forming a story.

    Favourite book of all time?

Some would think that’s a hard question, especially to someone that reads three to four books a week, but this is the easiest question ever. It’s hands down the incomparable novel ‘Invisible Life’ by the late great Elynn Harris. It was my first gay romance novel. I read it when I was nineteen years old; I’ve been hooked on the genre every since.

What’s next for you?  Any current WIP’s we should know about?

My next novel is a m/m/m ménage erotic entitled ‘You Can See Me.’ It’s currently contracted by Amira Press Publishing and I’m already on the first round of edits. You can read the synopsis and its reviews on my official website.

    Blue Moon Excerpt:

Blue Moon – Too Good To Be True

    Excerpt from Chapter 4

Max saw Pierce, three police officers, and the Incident Commander talking to a man who from behind looked like one of those underwear models for Calvin Klein. He was sure it was a man despite the beautiful black hair reaching to his round ass. What the hell? Why would I call a guy’s hair beautiful? Or describe his ass? Shit, anyone would notice him, I mean he doesn’t look like any man I’ve ever seen. Max couldn’t help but notice the expensive black slacks that tapered at the man’s narrow waist and hugged his butt. The silky, black short-sleeved collared shirt looked like someone had grabbed the man from behind because it was pretty wrinkled in the back.

Max made his way to the commotion just in time to see Pierce put up both his hands in a placating gesture, trying to speak calmly to the irate man. “Sir, I know you’re upset, but yelling at us is not going to help. We need to get some more information from you so we can try to locate him.”

“Yes, so one more time, Mr. DeLucca. Why was the gentleman in question up in your personal office if he wasn’t staff?” a police officer interrupted Pierce’s rationalization. His lip turned up in disgust, already assuming the answer and not the least bit affected by the harsh glare radiating from the man’s dangerous, smoky brown eyes.

“I’ve told you twice already. I’m beginning to think you’re just getting off on my fucking story! The man approached me downstairs, we exchanged words, he asked me if we could go someplace a little quieter, and I directed him to my office.”

Max watched the dark man try to quench his anger while he recounted the events that took place right before his alarm was pulled. His staff began making their way back in, but they kept looking over at them with concern on their faces. Max could see Mr. DeLucca was trying to stay calm, perhaps for their sakes. However, his red face couldn’t hide his anger…or his humiliation.

“So what exactly were you doing up there in the quiet office, Mr. DeLucca?” Nasty cop again.

It was obvious to Max and everyone listening that the cop wasn’t in favor of Mr. DeLucca’s sexual preference. The cop had a hard scowl on his face to match his suspect’s menacing stare. Only the cop’s dull green eyes were not as enticing as Mr. DeLucca’s chocolate irises. The cop braced his legs apart as if ready to react if need be.

Max made direct eye contact with the angry club owner, and he immediately felt as if he was put into a trance. The pupils in the man’s eyes were so dark that they practically drowned out his sclera. Max could barely see the white in the man’s gaze. Max squirmed uncomfortably. After too many minutes he managed to break the contact as he looked around to see if anyone else noticed their silent exchange. Holy Shit. Why the hell is he staring at me like that? Fuck me. He looks so damn intense. Fuck.

    “Mr. DeLucca, over here.”

Max saw the cop rudely snapping his fingers in front of Mr. DeLucca like he was a child, making him break the mojo he was working on Max. “I must have to ask you again, since you are focused on other things. What were you doing in your quiet office with the alleged man?”

“Playing goddamn Monopoly…what the fuck do you think we were doing?” DeLucca growled back hard.

Max couldn’t help but chuckle at the serious man’s witty reply.

“Is there something you want to interject here, Mr. Strong, because I’m trying to question a suspect?” The cop gave Max an angry look for his little outburst. Max felt his face heat to a sweltering temperature. Dammit, now I’m sweating.

“Actually, Sergeant Strong is here to take a statement from the owner of this establishment, who we understand now to be a victim of vandalism,” Pierce interjected before Max could respond. His best friend always had his back.

Max didn’t speak, waiting for the officer to digest that Max had a higher rank than him at this scene. The cop had no choice but to stop interrogating Mr. DeLucca until after Max was done talking to him. Max had his own questions to ask and his forms needed signatures so his firefighters could be released to leave the scene. He was sure the officer knew the protocol because he flipped his notebook closed and stomped off with his posse following on his heels.

Now that the homophobic interrogation team was gone, that left Max and his best friend Pierce. Finally, Max was able to address the interesting looking man. “Good evening Mr. DeLucca, I am Serg—”

“Call me Angel,” he interjected swiftly, uncrossing his nice sized arms from over his strong chest. His posture was a lot less defensive now, appearing to Max that he was comfortable talking with him.

Angel…huh…that’s fitting. Max found himself blinking rapidly at his last thought. Jesus. Get it together man. There’s no reason why this man should be flustering me like this. He’s just a man. He had to clear his throat a couple of times before he could continue. Max was always commended on the professionalism he exhibited when on a scene. Even the most irate victims—whose home and possessions were burning down to ash right in front of their faces—responded to Max’s calm demeanor.

“I wish I could say it was a good evening Sergeant Strong…but whatever. What questions do you need answered? I’m sure your men have more important and pressing issues to attend to. Despite what that asshole cop was insinuating, if I didn’t invite that guy up then he never would have left disappointed enough to do what he did. I apologize that you and your men had to waste your time.”

Max was still staring at Angel closely, as he was slowly mesmerized by the way Angel’s full lips formed his intelligent words. The man was admitting his fuckup, but still did it in a way that showed his regality and strength. Max just stared slack-jawed, not knowing how to respond to Angel’s confession.

Max even forgot Pierce was still standing there as he heard his friend loudly clear his throat before speaking. His best friend tried unsuccessfully to hide his amused smirk.

    Shit.

“Umm…Angel, is it? It’s quite all right. None of what happened tonight was your fault. I’m sure once Max picks his lip up off your bar he will somehow manage to get his forms signed and take care of everything for you.” Pierce looked comically at Max. “Uhhh, yeah…Max, I’m going to clear the scene and have the rigs head back to the station. I’ll leave you the SUV. It’s parked in the alley on the side.” Pierce laughed as he headed to the front entrance.

Max knew his face had to be bright red at being caught gawking at the beautiful man. He pulled his gaze from Angel and began spreading out his forms on the bar top. Max regrettably had to clear his throat again before speaking.

“Mr. DeLuc…I mean Angel,” he switched up. “Would you mind terribly signing these documents for me? They simply state that the alarm was not pulled by you or a member of your staff but was an act of malice by one of your patrons. That eliminates you for being cited for inciting a crowd or for a false alarm. You can also begin to let your customers back in if you wish.”

“Sure,” Angel said. He came to stand directly beside Max at the bar and reached his hand out to take the offered pen.

Max was immediately overwhelmed with the enticing smell of coconuts, and suddenly wanted to ask the bartender for a piña colada. Damn, why the hell does he smell like that? Max found himself taking an unconscious sniff in the man’s direction. It must have not been very discreet, because the striking man paused midsignature and slowly raised his smoldering eyes to meet Max’s.

“Do you like the way I smell, Sergeant Strong?” he purred with deep sensuality.

“What…um…no…well…uh, no I wasn’t smelling you,” Max lied.

“Don’t lie to me,” Angel demanded with a sexy smirk playing on his sinful lips.

Max shivered and dropped his eyelids involuntarily. Okay, this can’t be happening to me right now. I’m not attracted to men. Max chanted that statement in his head several times, but his body was evidence to the contrary. Max’s cock was at half-mast and he was hyperaware of the ticklish droplets of sweat dripping behind his ears. He could not figure out why he was responding to this man this way. He looked Angel directly in his face since they were both about the same height.

“Why did the man leave your office so disappointed?” Max asked the question before he could think better of it. Damn! Why the fuck did I ask him that? Shit. It was Angel’s damn eyes that were screwing up his brain-to-mouth filter.

If Angel was shocked by his question he didn’t show it. He stepped in closer to Max, leaving only a few inches between them, and answered without hesitation. “He wanted something from me that he didn’t deserve, and I wasn’t willing to give him.”

“And what was that?” Max whispered, now intrigued.

    “Control.”
