Good Morning Monday

  • Good Morning Monday!! Who’s up for a COVER REVEAL?

I have finally wrangled the first draft into some kind of presentable shape, so I’d like to reward myself by showing off the amazing cover!!  Coming in at 82K words, The Dichotomy of Angels should be out at the end of December. I’m aiming for December 27th… BUT that is all things going well. Given the time of year, how busy it is, how real life gets in the way (not just mine, but that of my editor, proofreaders etc) if the release needs pushing back a week or two, I most certainly will.  I won’t jeopardise quality to make a self-imposed deadline.  I’m sure readers would prefer a polished product as well.

That being said…  the cover. OMG I love this cover so much!!

Isn’t it just gorgeous??  Made by Creative Paramita, I just loved it as soon as I saw it!  It really captures Nathaniel and Chasan, and I can’t wait for everyone to meet them. I’ll post the blurb when I have it edited 🙂

Oh, and just super quickly… My books that I have in wide distribution at the moment, will be heading back into KU soon. So be sure to grab them asap!

You can find SIR, the RED DIRT HEART SERIES, and my other titles at:

Next week sees December roll around and it’s the last month of this decade!! *gasps*  I’ll be doing some Christmas giveaways in my FACEBOOK READERS’ GROUP so be sure to join up or swing past to check them out!

    Until next week!!

    BLURB:
Reindeer Games Definition: activities to exclude outsiders

Industrial-art student Leif Caldwell and his best friend win tickets to the hottest party in town, the annual masquerade Christmas gala at the upmarket nightclub, Evoque. Not a gig they could ever afford to attend or buy costumes for, so Leif makes their masks. Given the holiday theme and the play on words, he makes a set of striking reindeer antlers and intends to have the night of his life.

Vintage Ridge’s resident millionaire and owner of Evoque, Russ Quarrington, hates the holiday season because it reminds him of everything he’s lost. All the money and success in the world can’t fill the void in his heart, and this year he’s particularly bereft. With the gala looming, his personal assistant insists Russ attends and that he wear a mask that offers anonymity, and hopefully find some festive cheer. Bored with the guys in town and tired of men only wanting him for his money, he reluctantly agrees.

But when Russ sees a mysterious man with a magnificent reindeer antlers and mask, he’s instantly intrigued. Even when their masks are removed, Leif has no idea who Russ really is, and what Russ discovers is a man who understands him. And for the first time ever, a man who doesn’t want what Russ has. This time, it’s Russ who wants what Leif has, what money can’t buy.

Russ and Leif are about to learn that sometimes Reindeer Games are the only games worth playing.

~~ Reindeer Games is a 42,000 word novella.

    * * *

For the first 90 days of this title’s publication, all sales and page reads will be donated to Twenty10, Sydney.

REINDEER GAMES is part of a multi-author series of books that take place in the same fictional town. Each story can be read in any order. The connecting element in the Ace’s Wild series is an adult store owned by Ace and Wilder. The main characters from each book will make at least one visit to Ace’s Wild, where they’ll buy a toy to use in their story! The only characters who crossover to each book are Ace and Wilder. And with various heat levels, there’s sure to be something for everyone!

Still waiting on the audio of Upside Down to go live. We’ve had some issues but fingers crossed all is sorted out now and ACX will finally play nice. LOL

    Writing Update:

Still not great, but the words are slooooooowly happening. My WIP is now at 32K words and they’re probably ALL utter crap, but I can’t fix ’em if I don’t write ’em first. I HAVE to have this manuscript done in the next three weeks. No excuses. <stern face>  So I’m hoping for a super productive week.

    Until then…

  • Good Morning Monday!

I missed last week’s blog post, sorry if anyone was expecting it. To be honest, I was completely out of headspace and just didn’t have it in me to try and be cheerful and excited. I also didn’t really much to talk about. I’ve been struggling to write (still) and that always puts me in a funk. The words still haven’t really been flowing this week either but I do feel better about it so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a more productive week. Even though this week is busy with other stuff…

On the 25th, Reindeer Games will have a cover reveal, and it will go up for pre-order!!

Reindeer Games is part of the Ace’s Wild Series (each book is a stand-alone by a different author) and for the first 90 days of release, proceeds go to the author’s charity of choice.
I’ll have more details on my LGBTQIA+ charity of choice at that time, but I’m super excited for everyone to meet my two main characters, Leif and Russ
Max Walker’s is the next story in the Ace’s Wild Series, and is up for pre-order now! You can find it at https://www.amazon.com/Loosen-Up-Aces-Wild-Book-ebook/dp/B07Z8LYSX1
Other amazing authors in this series so far is Riley Hart and Christina Lee, SE Jakes, Alice Winters, and Devon McCormack. You can find the series page at https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YLZGFBT

I’m super excited to be a part of this, and will share all the details when the book goes up for pre-order on the 25th of October.

If you have Kindle Unlimited and wanted to read SIR you need to grab it NOW! It’s going wide, to all retailers on the 21st, though it can take a few days to get to the likes of apple or b&n. I’ll post my author page links to those sites because I don’t have the buy-links yet (obviously lol).

If you follow me at the following retailers, you will/should be notified as soon as appears.

You can find me at the following profiles:

    B&N
    iBooks
    Kobo
    Smashwords

SIR will only be available at all retailers for a short time before it goes back into KU!

I’ll be back on Friday with the cover and pre-order link for Reindeer Games. Until then…

  • Good Morning Monday! News and Updates

OMG this year is almost over. And can you believe it… this decade is almost over!  Craaaaazy, isn’t it? But with a new decade brings new things, new goals, new milestones. I’m excited but also a little scared, not gonna lie. The world’s political arena at the moment is a horrifying spectacle and I worry about what it means for my kids, and how the new normal is really rather depressing. BUT all doom and gloom aside, adversity brings about change and strength. 2020 will be a good year. I’m determined for it to be my best year yet!

Okay, so that was a deep and dark beginning LOL  On to brighter things…

So this week has been busy, but I say that a lot so it’s not anything new. I’ve been trying to get some writing done on my current WIP but man it’s slow-going. Currently at 10K words but I should have had it half done by now. I’m thinking it will be around 50-60K words long, so I have a LONG way to go. I’ll be mostly absent from social media this week as I try and crank out some words.

It was supposed to be a darker drama style story but one of the characters is kinda funny. Not intentionally funny like Jordan (Upside Down) or Henry (The Weight of It All) but more of a so-awkward-it-hurts kind of funny way. I don’t know… it’s still early days yet, so he might come into his own yet. I don’t know. I’m sure I’ll get to know him better as the book progresses 🙂

    COMING SOON

I’m so ridiculously excited for this!!  It’s taking a fair chunk of time to get approved but it should be here any day!  You can find me at AUDIBLE and check the day it goes live!!

Glenn has done such a perfect job of bringing Jordan and Hennessy to life. I can’t wait for you all to hear this!

    And in other audio news…

I’ve just signed a contract with Tantor for FIVE audios!!!  I’m so excited for this!!

    • Tallowwood
    • The Hate You Drink
    • Private Charter
    • Imago
    • Imagines

Will be coming out over the next year or so. The narrator will be new, and I’ll share more on this when I can confirm details.  But needless to say I’M VERY EXCITED!! 🙂

    Next Release…

My next book is called Reindeer Games and it will be out October 29th. Yes, I know it’s a month early, but sometimes schedules need to change. This is a collab with a bunch of other authors for charity call Ace’s Wild Series, and I’m so excited for everyone to meet my boys. Leif and Russ are so sweet, and their story is one of hope and finding someone who understands what’s really important.

The awesome list of authors and release dates are as follows:

The third book in the series comes out this week!! You can find the series listing on Amazon HERE and each book will be added to it as they become available.

Reindeer Games will be up for pre-order on the 25th October with the cover reveal!! Eeeeek!!

With lots of #1 rankings all over the world, Tallowwood is still #1 in LGBT Mystery and #2 in Gay Romance in the US, and it’s still #1 in all LGBT categories in Germany and Australia. I’m so happy people are loving this book!

    I’ve seen reviews like

    “Best book of 2019!”

    “N.R. Walker at her best”

With lots of words like powerful and lyrical and brilliant.

Guys, I can’t thank you enough for the response to this book!! It’s always a risk when an author tries something new, and I’m honoured that you guys took a chance on me!

The paperbacks are also available, and they are just gorgeous!!

    BONUS CONTENT LINK

So what is my bonus freebie for you all??

A deleted scene from Tallowwood!! YES, that’s right!!!  But, please note, the deleted scene contains spoilers for the book, so if you haven’t read Tallowwood yet, by all means, grab the freebie while you can but maybe read the book first. 🙂

    WIP Update:

OMG it’s going so slow… I’ve still barely started it. This release week has been crazy-busy and I’ve had edits on my next release and travelling, and now it’s school holidays for my kids, so lord knows how much writing I’ll get done this week…

I need to get some serious words down this week somehow. Though I can’t help but wonder if I started the wrong book. Which is weird. But there were other characters who piped up, but these other guys were louder but now I’m second-guessing myself. I just need to put my head down and get on with it, I think.

Anywho…  Have a great week, guys!  Until then…

  • Good Morning Monday ~ It’s Release Week for Tallowwood!

Oh my GAWD it’s been a busy week, and this week will be even busier!  I’ve been travelling the last two weekends, trying to get things ready for Tallowwood release day, trying to start my next book, and working on some edits and proofing for a surprise for you guys later this week. It just neverrrrrr ends!!

But yay for release weeks!! It’s always an exciting, nerve-wracking process for me. I’m so excited for everyone to finally read the book and meet the characters, but OMG what if people don’t like it, or if it falls spectacularly short of expectations, or if Amazon decide not to upload it, or SOMETHING… The stress and anxiety over new releases will never get old, and I probably don’t want it to. Because maybe that wouldn’t mean I’d gotten used to the process but more that I didn’t care? I don’t know. I’m clearly overthinking things, because this is release week and that means stressing over every little thing haha

Anywhoooo, stay tuned for another blog update this week once Tallowwood goes live. I’ll be posting the links for you!

What else is happening this week?

I have edits on next month’s new release (OMG don’t ever let me agree to moving releases a month forward ever again LOL) and edits on a surprise short story I’ll be doing as a freebie later this week. It’s part of a newsletter boost, and I’ll be posting more on that later as well.

I should just get my name changed to Busy… because seriously, I AM BUSY. haha

Image result for gif of busy

This gif is an accurate representation LOL.  See you all again on Thursday!

  • Good Morning Monday ~ Tallowwood Excerpt!

Release day for Tallowwood is getting closer!!  And I promised an excerpt so, without dragging it out, here it is…

    Chapter One

Detective August Shaw sat in his old, cramped office, tucked away from the rest of the bustling Police Headquarters in Parramatta, Sydney. He preferred it that way. He didn’t even mind the shoebox-sized office if it meant people left him alone.

His colleagues would smile at him and some even tried to make small talk about weekend football or local festivals, but August would simply pretend to smile behind his coffee cup and make his excuses to go back to hiding in his office.

He felt at peace there; productive and useful. As the lead, and only, officer dedicated to his particular division of Sydney’s cold cases, he would immerse himself in the past, trying to make a quiet and unassuming difference to a cold and cruel world. Every day he locked himself away in his tiny office, and every day he fought to bring justice to victims long forgotten and closure for those who were left behind.

August felt older than his forty-one years. It wasn’t the fact his greying beard belied his brown hair or his recent acquisition of reading glasses. It wasn’t how his body ached when he stayed too still or if he pushed himself too hard at the gym, and it wasn’t the small lines at the corners of his eyes that made him feel old. It was the weariness in his bones. Weariness and the sullen weight of responsibility for the unsolved cases that surrounded him in his office. They bore a kind of weight that sometimes made August unsure if it was trying to pull him under the surface. Or if it was keeping him afloat.

They weren’t just file numbers to him. They weren’t faceless names. They weren’t just archive boxes full of folders or statistics.

    They were family.

Each one was a human being, a son or daughter, a person whose life was cut short. Each cold case in his care was someone who identified as LGBTQIA+.

    Family.

August’s days were mostly filled with paperwork. That probably would have driven most cops crazy, but August didn’t mind the hours of cross-referencing numbers, evidence, and report data. He made phone calls, did internet searches, and sent evidence away for analysis. The beauty of modern technologies that had been so lacking thirty, twenty, ten, or even five years ago, now opened new possibilities of identifying killers. He could utilise pathology, DNA, ballistics, toxicology that didn’t exist at the time of these deaths. Sometimes he struck gold, sometimes he struck out, but he never stopped trying.

He’d make phone calls and speak to the family and friends of victims every so often. Some took tracking down. They were either long gone, moved on, or deceased. Not everyone was contactable; not everyone wanted to be found. It wasn’t like the movies or the TV shows. There was no glamour, no accolades. Maybe that’s what August found the most gratifying. He didn’t do this for the esteem or the reputation other homicide detectives found in recent, high-newsworthy, front-page fame.

August did this for the victims.

He did it for those who no longer had a voice. For those whose spotlight had been extinguished and whose deaths were filed under Unresolved or Inconclusive.

He also very deliberately buried himself in work. Days, nights, and weekends were spent poring over details, which didn’t leave much time for any kind of social life.

Which was very much the point.

Some days, the only time he spoke to anyone was when he ordered coffee or lunch, if he got forensic or ballistic reports, or if his boss called him into his office. He didn’t dislike his boss exactly. August didn’t exactly dislike anyone. He didn’t like them much either, but August avoided human interaction if he could manage it. Except for anyone in the periphery of a case, of course. But it was usually him who had to make those calls, which was why, when his desk phone rang, it scared the shit out of him. It also took him fifteen seconds to find the handset under open files and papers.

He snatched up the phone. “Detective Shaw.”

“Hello, Detective Shaw, this is Senior Constable Jacob Porter from the North Coast Area Command. How are you today?”

August frowned. “I’m fine. Is there anything I can help you with?”

“Yes, actually, I think there might be. I have a case I could use your help with.”

August’s frown deepened. “My help? With what, exactly? I work cold cases.”

“I know who you are, Detective,” he replied. “And while this particular case is new—we found human remains two days ago—this body’s been there a while.”

“I’m not the only cop in the state who specialises in cold cases.”

“No. But you are the best.”

August almost smiled. “If it’s a homicide, call homicide.”

    “Detective—”

“I have enough cases of my own to get through, Senior Constable.”

“That’s just it,” Porter answered. “I think this is one of your cases.”

“One of mine . . .” August’s frown became a scowl. “How so?”

“The victim was gay,” Porter answered.

    “That hardly makes it mine.”

“It was made to look like a suicide,” he added.

“And you don’t think it is?”

“No. That’s not all, Detective. The medical examiner suggested I call you. Said it would be familiar. The body was found with a note in his pocket, a quote from a poem. And a silver cross.”

August’s stomach dropped and he could feel the colour drain from his face. “Oh.”

“So yeah, I was wondering if you could help with some finer points. I could email—”

August looked at the file he’d been reading and reread the name. Mustafa Holzieg. Mustafa, like the others, in all the files that surrounded him, deserved better. August nodded, more to himself than anyone else. “I can be there first thing tomorrow morning.”

    Update:

My next book begins!! Well, I’ve been researching a little and I want to start actually writing this week but I’m away until Monday arvo, then my Mother in Law gets here for a week. Which is fine, but people think “working from home” actually means “you don’t have to do anything” and countless interruptions aren’t a problem, right?  Ugh. Drives me crazy! LOL

But busy times… I’m away until Monday, my MIL gets here and stays until Friday. Then I fly to Sydney on Saturday (6am flight, what was I thinking?) with two 17 year old girls and we get home Sunday night, just in time for my daughter’s Year 11 exams to begin. Busy’s fun, right?

Oh, and the audio of Upside Down should be out in the next 2-3 weeks!! I’m so excited for this!

That’s all for this week! Thanks for reading and I’ll be back next week!

    Until then…

  • Good Morning Monday ~ Date Changes, And The Week That Was

I spent most of this last week away, taking a lovely few days in the Hunter Valley with fellow MM author Nic Starr.  It was a much-needed recharge and catch up. We chatted and laughed, and discussed the industry goings-on. It was a lot of fun! I finished going through my WIP first draft and tidied that up, considered what I want to start writing next, and managed to get in some reading time!

So, more on my WIP…  It was scheduled for release in the first week of December (as I explained last week with regards to my usual 8 weeks between releases) but that has now changed to the end of October. It’s really only 4.5 weeks earlier. Being a part of a multi-author anthology (with separate releases) another author needed to swap and given my first draft was done, it was a no brainer. Yes, self-publishing comes with a certain freedom but real life should always come first.

I had originally planned to have a late Sept release with Tallowwood, then a ten-week wait until early Dec release with the anthology/charity novella, then having a February release and maintaining my usual 8-week release schedule into 2020. But that has now changed and the ten-week wait between books has come forward.

What this means for my readers is that my release schedule now looks like this:

    Sept 25 – Tallowwood

    Oct 29 – anthology/charity release

Mid-January – next release, and continue on with the normal 8-week release schedule from January.

So really not much is changing, just the shuffling of dates. The upside is that you guys will get to see the cover sooner, and of course get the book sooner as well!! So yay!

    Upside Down Audio

Coming Soon!!!  Not sure on exact dates, but I’ve listened to the proof which means it’s on the home straight. Maybe three weeks-ish?  It will depend on how long ACX decide to hold it hostage…

BUTTTTTTT the amazing narrator, Glen Lloyd killed this performance. He was the PERFECT choice for Jordan and Hennessy!  Such a true Aussie voice and I’m reeeeeeally hoping he’ll be on board to narrate other books as my finances allow.

    Translations

I’m very excited to announce the release of Imago in Italian!!  I absolutely LOVE working with Triskell Edizione, and Imago is already listed as a best-seller on their site!!!  It goes live on the 9th!!

You can pre-order it from Triskell or find it at Amazon

And of course we kept the cover because Lou Harper is a genius and this cover is AMAZING!!

Also Switched will be out in German soon!! I’ll post links when I have them!!

Okay that’s it for this week. Next week I’ll have an excerpt from Tallowwood to share, so stay tuned for that. This week I have a super short scene to write for a newsletter swap (more on that later) and some research to do (because when can I ever write a book that doesn’t require a shitload of research? LOL)

    Until then…

  • Good Morning Monday ~ Coming Up & Audio Update

Sorry for not posting my weekly update last week. Kinda out of spoons lately, not gonna lie. I’ve been taking some mental health days off social media and it has helped me regroup and recharge. Some days we just need to unplug for a bit and take a breath.

I’ve been struggling to make headway on my WIP. It’s at 27K words and honestly, I should have finished it weeks ago. But I can almost see the finish line (It’s a novella) but I really do love these characters. They’re cute and authentic, and their story is about being true to one’s self and finding people who appreciate the real you. It’s supposed to be Christmassy but it’s really about as festive as I am (spoiler: I am not festive LOL).  I can’t give too much away just yet, but I can tell you my WIP is part of this amazing line up:

    What:

Ace’s Wild is a multi-author series of novellas that take place in the same fictional town. The connecting element in the Ace’s Wild series is an adult store owned by a gay couple–Ace and Wilder! The main characters from each novella will make at least one visit to Ace’s Wild, where they’ll buy some kind of fun toy to use in their story. Each novella can be read as a standalone. The only characters who crossover to each book are Ace and Wilder. And with various heat and kink levels, there’s sure to be something for everyone!

    Who:

Me, obv. LOL Riley Hart, Christina Lee, Devon McCormack, Annabella Michaels, SE Jakes, Morningstar Ashley, Neve Wilder, Lane Hayes, Jaclyn Quinn, Luna David, Davidson King, Alice Winters, Max Walker.

    When:

The first novella will be released September 24th with one coming out each Tuesday for fourteen weeks!  Given you know mine is a Christmas novella, I can say my release is early December 🙂

    The Best Part:

For the first 90 days after each novella releases, royalties (buys and page reads) will go to an LGBTQ charity of the author’s choice! So…you’ll not only get some great reads, you’ll be helping a charity in the process. Each charity will be clearly labeled in the blurb of each book.

We’re so excited to bring you guys this series! It’s been killing us to keep it to ourselves. We hope you have as much fun in our quirky little town as we did! I will post more on this when I can. I can NOT wait for everyone to see the amazing covers we have for these books!!

    🖤

I’ll be finishing this WIP up this week. I’m also travelling a lot in the next month, so I’ll be offline trying to get as many words written as I can.

I’ve been working on edits and getting some crinkles ironed out, and it’s almost ready for my proofreaders. I had a general idea of the cover I wanted and I’d played around with a lot of ideas, but something wasn’t quite right. So I passed it off to Reese Dante and holy crap, she NAILED it. I’m so very excited about this book – I love the characters so much. I can’t wait to share the cover and blurb with you! Stay tuned for that next week!

    IMPORTANT AUDIO NEWS

I explained the other week that my audio schedule for 2019 has changed, and I’d like to elaborate. Nova Praetorian has been uploaded into ACX and is due out any day/week now, and this will be my last collaboration with Joel Leslie.  I’ve since removed all future planned collabs from my immediate schedule, and have been exploring other avenues with other narrators.

The only books I can confirm at this time are Nova (due out soon), Sir is scheduled for Nov (with Nick Russo) and Upside Down should be a Sept release (with a new-to-me Aussie narrator). I’m super excited about Upside Down coming to audio!! I’ll reveal more soon, and I’m hoping this narrator will also be on board for narrating Tallowwood. Tallowwood is a special book for me, and I’d love to have it done. But it’s another long one (approx 100K words) so it will be super pricey to produce.

In all likelihood, Kennard’s Story won’t be done in audio. Which isn’t ideal, I know. And If The Hate You Drink, Private Charter, Imago and Imagines, or Sixty Five Hours ever make it to a studio, remains to be seen at this time. I’d like to think they will, but it will be next year if at all.

I know this is disappointing for some folks, and it is for me too. But also, for some business perspective, please bear in mind that audios are hella-expensive to produce. This year alone, I’ve already spent over $15K AUD on getting audios done. By the years’ end, I will have 12 audios release this year. Getting some of my backlist into production was my plan and I have NO regrets. LOL (I love audiobooks!). And I still plan to produce audios when I can, and will let you guys know if and when that happens. Thank you for your patience and understanding. 🧡🧡

    TRANSLATION NEWS

I have the Italian version of Imago coming out very soon, and the German version of Switched coming out soon, and I’m so excited!  I never could have dreamed my books would be translated around the world and it blows my mind. I’ll show the covers when I can! Thank you everyone for being along for this crazy ride!

Okay folks, I have another busy week coming up, but I should be back with another update next Monday with the cover and blurb to Tallowwood. Until then…
